User Impact

Before: Job runs silently when using unsupported options, making it difficult to debug

After: Job fails immediately with clear error message explaining the issue and listing supported alternatives

Example error:

ConfigurationError: The 'dependency-type' option is not supported for the 'gradle' package manager. 
It is only supported for: bundler, composer, hex, maven, npm_and_yarn, pip, uv. 
Affected groups: test-dependencies

Feature description

I tried using the following option in a Gradle build:

groups:
  test-dependencies:
    dependency-type: "development"

However, the dependency-type option for grouped dependencies is only supported in a few ecosystems: bundler, composer, mix, maven, npm, and pip [1]

The confusing part is that neither the validation workflow nor the job itself flagged this as invalid. The job ran as if everything was fine. This made it difficult to understand what I had done wrong.

The job should probably fail, or at least the validation endpoint should report an error when unsupported options are used. This would make it much clearer to users and prevent wasted time debugging.

Fixed in commit 7286804. The failing tests were due to RuboCop style violations - changed %w[...] to %w(...) to match project style guidelines. All tests now pass.
